NFS has always reinvented itself, gone back to its roots and went in completely different directions. The very first NFS leaned more towards simulation, which changed in NFS2 and 3, which were far more arcade-y,. Then 'Porsche Unleashed' came out which focused on the history of Porsche.
Hot Pursuit 2 in 2002, then Underground in 2003, Underground 2 added an open world, Most Wanted mixed Hot Pursuit with Underground 2 etcetera etcetera. Now this.
There really isn't a 'true NFS'.

NFS could be be anything at all.. EA just like to stick "Need For Speed" onto games to boost sales. This game could just be called "Shift 2: Unleashed" without NFS attached and it'll get much less haters but then it probably won't sell as much.

U can say that but let's just say most of the ppl don't like nfs to "reinvent" i don't wanna be a hater rly but i just can't see a good reason to buy this game i was a huuuge fan of the series i bought most of the without even testing them if a i want a simulator i already own the GT5 and im happy with it!And to stick to the point i luved NFS untill MW from there it was a downfall

Hehe true but trust me their sales are already pretty low and they will remain low untill a they realize their mistake!Nfs had maybe the lesser haters then any other game but that changed since pro street or even carbon all those haters were the fans of the good nfs and they r right cuz they want Need For Speed not Need For Racing Simulation! :P

Shift 2 exists because Shift was critically well received and, probably most importantly, sold well enough for EA to greenlight this. So I'm guessing enough people bought Shift to warrant a sequel.
Whether they liked it is however another matter, heh. Though it's safe to assume they did.
Forza offers insane customization, GT offers a massive carlist and Shift 2 throws down with the immersive driving experience. So they cater to different kinds of racing gamers.

Well still it boring and annoying they're out of their league underground and most wanted will remain in history of racing games shifts pro street probblably on the worst racing games titles list later and even so if im wrong and it's good i still don't care the feel that underground 2 gave u driving all around the cities midnight cool cars catchy music that was the spirit why ruin it? :/

Well, you still can :) Pick up Underground 2 for the PC, it's probably a bargain right now.
Or you could try Midnight Club: LA, which I personally haven't tried but was well received, has an open world,, customization, large city, day/night cycle.
Additionally Black Box (developers of Underground (2),, Most Wanted, Carbon, Undercover) are to release a similar game to that this year.

i had a really tough time telling the difference between the real life and the game :/.
also, just to put it out there, i thought Undercover was pretty awesome, Hot Pursuit had a good car list, but i wish they had put a single player story in there, it just feels like an arcade game :/

i would LOVE to drive the SumoPower GT1 R35 but Shift 1 was a joke. using real cars on real tracks but with kiddie shit physics got you no respect from real car enthusiasts. its like it tried to be a Forza/GT sim and failed. if youre gonna try to make a sim-like game, PLEASE do it right. with decently realistic physics and the same level of car customization options, a NFS sim could compete with, if not beat Forza and GT. make another Shift 1 though and you'll lose even more respect. good luck
