The Meldrews and Mrs Warboys are going on holiday to the Algarve,where Mrs Warboys will meet her pen-pal,widowed Alfonso. They are trailed by tabloid reporter Martin Trout,who seems to have mistakenly dropped a saucy film of a celebrity into Margaret's bag. On arrival in Portugal Mrs Warboys is mistaken for a prostitute and,as the trio escape,they are stopped by the police for speeding. They assume they have been put in jail but they are in the barn to their villa,where they survive off lemons before realizing their mistake. As Mrs Warboys discovers that Alfonso's wife faked her death to escape him,Victor's after-shave attracts a donkey which urinates in the bath in the villa next door,causing its occupant,a boxer who lacks aggression,to suddenly recover it on seeing Victor. Trout eventually discovers that he had the film on him all along but,as the Meldrews and Mrs Warboys depart for home,it seems unlikely that he will make it.
