The town lies on the river Ria Formosa and is protected from the rough sea by a lagune. On the other side of this lagune is the Island of Tavira. Very romantically you can reach the beach only by boat crossing the nature protection area of Ria Formosa. At Ilha da Tavira you can enjoy long beach walks, swimming, sun bathing, water sports, beach sports and boat trips.
